This was strange to find. Apparently ENOM has come out in favor of NeuStar to
operate .us. See http://www.enom.com/inthenews.asp?pr=070504dotus.

What is weird is that the media contact listed is the same John Kane as the
one who serves on the Board of Directors of Afilias, who is also bidding on the
.us contract with GoDaddy (http://www.afilias.info/about_afilias/board_list).

Has anyone heard anything about this?

BELLEVUE, WA - September 21, 2007 -- As the US Department of Commerce
considers reassigning operation of the .US top level domain from Neustar, which
has managed the TLD since 2002, Paul Stahura, founder of eNom, Inc. the world?s
second largest domain registrar, asserts making a change from the present
management of .US may incur unnecessary expense for registrars and negatively
impact the TLD?s reputation and brand.
"Neustar has proven they are technically sound, and there are no issues with
the registry," Stahura said. "They have done a terrific job growing the .BIZ
extension to over 1.8 million registrations and the 5th largest TLD worldwide,
and growing .US to 1.3 million and 6th largest TLD worldwide. Neustar?s
technology has proven to be solid and reliable."

In comparison to the growth of other country code extensions, Stahura said,
"Despite the unavoidable fact that .COM is the de facto TLD in the United
States, .US has held its own. This doesn?t indicate a need to change things at
the registry level." As for marketing, Stahura said "Certainly any registrar
could step up at any time and be aggressive about promoting .US, as many of us
have done and will continue to do. You do not need to be the registry to market
.US well."

Stahura believes changing the .US registry could create needless
administrative and technical expense for registrars to process such a switch.
Stahura also favors maintaining the price integrity of .US as he believes a
slightly lower price would not significantly affect volume. "Price is not the
only factor in the success of a TLD. Neustar has, with .BIZ and .US,
demonstrated they can grow TLDs in an extremely competitive marketplace."

Stahura looks forward to Neustar continuing as the .US registry. "Neustar has
proven itself in both the technical and management arenas to be capable,
responsive and highly respected. I can?t think of any company better suited to
represent the United States in managing this important country code."
