All,

Here is a compiled list of the summaries for the questionnaires that we have
received. I have taken out all of the names, because this will be on the
public list. Please be prepared to discuss:

1) Below is the summary of the response from
http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/tf1-survey/msg00008.html
Obtains Whois data by submitting queries to a web-based interface
and using special tools such as port 43. Obtains info from ICANN
acredited bodies and through multiple sources. Disseminates
individual Whois records and Whois records in bulk to brand owner
clients organized in a useful way, ie. spreadsheet or customized
database. The number of queries or looks varies widely between
1000 per day and none. Stores Whois data for longer than a week.
The purposes of use are for IP enforcement. Use of query based is
for IP asset wrangling for clients and determing bad faith or multiple
registrations by cyber-squatters. Other sources than port 43 would be
bulk Whois, access to zone files or individual arrangements with
registrars and registries. The use of alternate sources would increase
costs and time and be ineffective and unmarketable. The most
important factor driving access to Whois is convenience or need for
immediate online access to contact information to deal with IP
infringers. (DAVID FARES reviewed)

2) <http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/tf1-survey/msg00000.html>
Uses WHOIS data in tracking intellectual property infringement. Uses
port 43 via UNIX command-line tools, as well as sometimes using
web-based interfaces. Occasionally disseminates individual WHOIS
records to clients as part of investigation reports. If port 43 were
unavailable, would turn to Allwhois, coolwhois (ed: though it's not
clear how those would function without port 43). (Wendy Reviewed)

3) <http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/tf1-survey/msg00001.html>
Registrarstats.com does not use any registrar whois information
whatsoever to compile its statistics. It uses only the zone-file
information and registry whois, and that only to determine the
registrar-of-record for a particular name, not the registrant. Uses
port 43, to find registrar of record, for statistical research (but
would like to sell data). Would use another source if port 43 went
away. Because it's there and people are interesting in seeing
timely estimate of registrar market share data. (Wendy Reviewed)

4) <http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/tf1-survey/msg00002.html>
Uses WHOIS data for IP enforcement, transfers. Gets records from
web-based interfaces, disseminates individual records, 10/week. Says
she uses the data because of the convenience or need for immediate
online access to contact information; when infringements of IP are
identified, it is important to act quickly. (Wendy Reviewed).
