Hello again – yes, WG membership is not limited to those who are members of an
SO, AC, SG or Constituency; the only limitation (such as it is) is that it must
be a “real person”.
More broadly, the WG Guidelines note that a WG should ideally "mirror the
diversity and representativeness of the community". The WG Chair(s) have the
responsibility of continually assessing whether the WG has sufficiently broad
representation or, conversely, "over-representation to the point of capture”.
Cheers

Just to clarify, interested persons who are not members of an SO or AC are free
to volunteer as well, correct?
I expect that this WG may draw interest from individuals in the trademark and
domain investment communities, as well as other sectors, who do not regularly
participate in ICANN activities.

Hello Phil and everyone,
We will be setting up the requisite mailing lists and drafting the Call for
Volunteers this week. As Marika noted, we plan to publish the Call for
Volunteers well before the 21-day deadline and will be coordinating with Phil
(as Council liaison and interim WG chair) to hold the first meeting of the WG
about 3 weeks following that. We currently anticipate publishing the Call for
Volunteers by the end of this week, which will mean that the first WG meeting
can take place as early as the week of 11 April.
We hope that interested community members with different types of relevant
expertise will join the WG. A with all GNSO WGs, however, anyone is free to
sign up to participate (either as a member or observer) throughout the duration
of the work as well.
Cheers
Mary

Ok, thanks again.
So if the call for volunteers is issued in the last week of March, then the
first WG call should take place in the latter half of April.
Much appreciated

Looking at recent WGs, the first WG call is typically scheduled 3-4 weeks after
the launch of the call for volunteers.
Best regards,
Marika

Thanks for that clarification, Marika.
For my own information, once the call does go out by no later than March 30th,
how much time generally transpires between it and the initial organizational
meeting of the WG?
Very best,
Philip

Dear Phil, all,
The timeline in the motion related to when the call for volunteers would be
initiated not the duration of the call for volunteers, i.e. the call for
volunteers should go out no later than 21 days after the adoption of the
motion. I do anticipate that the call for volunteers will go out well before
the 21-day deadline and of course, we’ll make sure that sufficient opportunity
is provided to interested parties to sign up before the first meeting is
scheduled.
Best regards,
Marika

Fellow Councilors and staff:
As GNSO Liaison to and Interim Chair for this new WG, may I inquire when the
Call for Volunteers will be sent out? In Marrakech we extended the usual 14-day
period to 21 days, but that was 5 days ago.
This will be a highly complex 2-pahse PDP that I expect to consume at least
2-3 years, so we want to amass a group of knowledgeable and dedicated
volunteers who understand the time commitment that accompanies engagement with
this effort. So it would be best to cast the net as early and wide as possible.
Great to see all of you last week.
All my best,
Philip

In Brief
During the face-to-face Council Meeting at ICANN55, the GNSO Council voted –
with one opposing vote – to adopt the Charter of the recently initiated PDP to
Review all Rights Protections Mechanisms in all generic top-level domains. A
call for volunteers will be send out to all GNSO Stakeholder Groups and
Constituencies within the next two weeks; the same call will also go out to all
of ICANN’s Supporting Organisations and Advisory Committees.
