1. Thanks for asking about this Donna, I had wondered and got busy and forgot to follow up. 2. For those of us who signed up to help with the Google doc, has there been any discussion? Given the volume of traffic, one could be forgiven for missing something but I had not heard anything. 3. This seems to me to be a very important topic, a little too important to be relegated to a BOF on a jam-packed schedule. The lovely thing about have a formal working group is we can all see the transcripts.
Kind regards

To follow up on my message below, the session slot started out as an informal placeholder session for some broader “GNSO future” discussions that members of the Board wanted to facilitate in response to a number of individual discussions and comments that were made to Board members in Dublin.

In particular, at the Dublin public meeting there were discussions with members of the GNSO’s commercial and non-commercial community about the potential future direction of the GNSO linked to the recent independent review efforts. You may have noted a number of viewpoints recently expressed that the current GNSO review has been limited to just operational matters whereas some had urged a broader structural assessment. Rather than field individual community inquiries, Board members seemed interested in facilitating broader community discussion to see if the community itself had an interest in pursuing those structural conversations more broadly.

Recently, leaders of the GNSO community’s non-commercial community met for their Intersessional Meeting in Los Angeles (February 4-5) and continued general discussions about the potential future directions of the GNSO. That group agreed to establish an informal group effort – not a formal process yet – and to try to continue their conversations in Marrakech (see - https://community.icann.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=56149573&preview=/56149573/58722580/transcript_plenary3_040216.pdf.

It has been considered that continuing the conversation in an informal “birds of a feather” environment may be a good way for giving interested community members the opportunity to share their views, update each other on their various thoughts and efforts and give them all an opportunity to see these various threads and how they might be connected/related.

As such this session was scheduled to provide a placeholder for an informal exchange and am interested to see who, if anyone, expresses an interest by showing up and engaging in an informal conversation. It was originally hoped that some Board members would be able to attend the session, but that is looking less likely now given meeting conflicts.

Best regards,

Marika

According to the description, 'The purpose of this "Birds of a Feather" gathering is for interested community members to have an informal brainstorming session at ICANN55 about "Future Challenges facing the GNSO", that may result in a white paper or other written documentation’. I believe this is a session that is being facilitated by the Board Organisational Effectiveness Committee to provide an opportunity to explore topics of a structural nature that were not covered by the GNSO Review, but I am happy to try and find out more (or stand corrected if I got this wrong).

Best regards,

Marika

Dear All,

Please find attached the latest version of the GNSO Schedule for Marrakech. Please note that we are still in the process of confirming some of these meetings, so further changes may occur. We will, of course, up date you as soon as possible should there be any further changes.
