Dear All, For your information, please find below the invitation from the ccNSO to participate in a cross-community working group to develop a framework for the use of country and territory names as TLDs as well as the proposed charter (attached). This links to the motion that was submitted by John Berard on Friday (see http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/council/msg15834.html). Best regards, Marika From: Bart Boswinkel <bart.boswinkel@xxxxxxxxx> Date: Thursday 13 March 2014 14:51 To: Jonathan Robinson <jonathan.robinson@xxxxxxxxxxx> Cc: Byron Holland <byron.holland@xxxxxxx>, Heather Forrest <Heather.Forrest@xxxxxxxxxx>, Marika Konings <marika.konings@xxxxxxxxx>, Lars HOFFMANN <Lars.hoffmann@xxxxxxxxx>, Glen de Saint Géry <Glen@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Invite to participate in the cross-community work to working group Framework for use of Country and Territory names as TLDs Dear Jonathan, On behalf of the chair ccNSO, I convey to you the ccNSO Council's invitation to the GNSO to participate in a newly to be formed cross-community working group Framework for use of Country and Territory names as TLDs. The ccNSO Council would greatly appreciate if you could consider participation of the GNSO during your upcoming meetings in Singapore, and inform us on the outcome of your deliberations in due course. The proposed draft charter for this WG is included. This intended working group is created following the adoption of the Final Report of the ccNSO Study Group on the use of Names of Country and Territories, which contained the recommendation to to establish a cross community working group to: ?Further review the current status of representations of country and territory names, as they exist under current ICANN policies, guidelines and procedures; ?Provide advice regarding the feasibility of developing a consistent and uniform definitional framework that could be applicable across the respective SOs and ACs; and ?Should such a framework be deemed feasible, provide detailed advice as to the content of the framework. The Study Group also advised that, as the objective of the proposed Working Group is considered to be of common interest to the broader community, other Supporting Organisations (SOs), Advisory Committees (ACs) should be invited to participate in the working group on equal footing, and the work should be preferably undertaken as a collaborative effort. For this reason a similar invitation is send to ALAC and the GAC. The ccNSO Study group on the use of Names for Country and Territory published its Final Report in September 2013 (http://ccnso.icann.org/node/42227 ). Members of the Study group also included volunteers from the GNSO ( see: http://ccnso.icann.org/workinggroups/unctwg.htm) . Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you have any questions, On behalf of the chair of the ccNSO Bart Boswinkel Attachment:
