[council] Items related to the Defensive Registrations Issue to be Discussed on Tomorrow's Council Call
Dear All, In advance of tomorrow's call, please find attached a couple documents that may be relevant for the discussion item on defensive registrations: - Joint BC/IPC Position Regarding RPM Improvements http://www.icann.org/en/news/correspondence/metalitz-to-pritz-17oct12-en.pdf - Melbourne IT's updated paper on additional rights protections, forwarded by Bruce in his individual capacity (not as a Board member) Best regards, Margie _________ Margie Milam Senior Policy Counselor ICANN _________ -----Original Message----- From: Bruce Tonkin Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2012 9:33 AM To: Margie Milam Subject: Updated paper on defensive registration at the 2nd level of new gTLDs Hello Margie, Melbourne IT has updated its paper on additional rights protections. See attached. Feel free to share. It is also available online at: http://www.melbourneit.info/news-centre/Releases/Melbourne-IT-updates-trademark-protection-discussion-paper.xml Melbourne IT has offered some comments on the current IPC/BC proposals. The paper still believes there should be some threshold for some of the mechanisms - such as reservation across gTLDs - but it has simplified the criteria for identifying a high at-risk mark. Hope this is helpful.
