The real issue is to identify the number of days we need to plan to do work;
build that in, make the decision while we are here, and see about booking
hotel rooms and a meeting space requirement.
I would prefer to do this before the ICANN meeting, as I noted today in
Council so that we can then take comment during the Council gNSO public
forum. I can't really commit to 4 days, and, as someone who has done a lot
of policy development, I don't recommend more than 2 days of such intense
work. Two days will in itself be very stressful, and quite intense. I am
thinking that actually days of 10-5:00 p.m. are better to commit to but that
is a "detail" for more discussion later. .
Let's get the two days cemented.

Hi,
Leaving Thursday means i can catch most of the IETF meeting. If we meet on
Thursday, I have to leave on Tuesday which leaves very little time for IETF
and there is not gguarantee that the IDN discussions will all get scheduled
on Monday/Tuesday.
As for rest, with that long a flight i will have slept at least twice so
expect to be fine. that is certainly my experience from previous trips of
this sort of duration. Of course I can't speak for others.
To go further, I expect that if there are two down days, they will be filled
by other work. Now that may a good reason to come on Thursday so there is a
chance to work 4 days if we can't finish in 2 days. Or if we want to tackle
more of the many issues on our plate, i.e. 2 days on tld, and 2 on other
pressing issues.
There may also be accounting concerns in this as perhaps not everyone's
funders will be willing to fund 2 intermediate down time days.
BTW, I do endorse the idea of getting as much work done in the intervening
months using whichever tools we can all learn to use.

if your planning on going to ietf and you were considering attending the
working group meetings, you would have to leave Dallas at the latest on
Thursday mar 23 in order to even arrive in Auckland on the 1st day of any
proposed weekend meeting . you would have traveled at least 23 hours and
arrived the morning of the 1st meeting day (if it was a sat & Sunday
meeting)..
given that the overwhelming majority of the members of this TF will be
flying at least 15 hours to go to new Zealand, i believe that in order to be
both physically & mentally "effective" for the entire icann meeting, it is
essential that some "down time" be provided for..
this is why i proposed a weekend break prior to the actual meeting start..
regards,
Ken
