ICANN has an immediate job opening for two Policy Support Officers. The key purpose of these roles are to analyse technological, economic and legal developments of importance to ICANN's technical policy development processes in the areas of IP addressing, generic top-level-domain and country-code top-level domain operations. Under the direction of the Vice President Policy Development Support and in close cooperation with the Senior Officer Policy Development Coordination, the incumbents will assist in assist in analysing relevant technological, economic, technical policy, legal developments, the evolution and functioning of the Internet's domain name system, and the economic and technical roles and functions of various stakeholder groups. The incumbents will provide assistance with the aim to achieve informed discussions on issues under consideration or a smooth running of any policy development processes. One of these positions (the GNSO Policy Support Officer) will assist the Generic Names Supporting Organisation (GNSO) in their technical policy development processes, including the drafting of issue reports, specific research of Internet technical policy issues under consideration, provide guidance on all steps and timeliness of the policy development processes, and support related activities of the GNSO Council. The other position will focus on the issues under consideration by the country-code Names Supporting Organisation (ccNSO) and the Addressing Supporting Organisation (ASO). The successful incumbents will have a bachelors degree (preferably in political science, communications or information technology) or equivalent experience. They will possess excellent verbal communication and written skills, specifically in report preparation and policy construction. Ideally the incumbents will be multi-lingual with experience in the international, high technology arena. The incumbents must be able to demonstrate strong team skills, creativity, a tolerance to stress, creative, and comfortable in dealing with multiple cultures and time zones. The GNSO Policy Support Officer is expected to have economic, market, and policy background and experience, whereas for the other position it is an advantage to have experience in IP addressing technologies and related technical policies, as well as the technical, operational, and economic issues affecting ccTLD registry operations. The incumbents will be experienced with analysis of relevant technological developments in the IT or technology sector and in liaising with technology, economic and/or legal specialists. Highly developed people and project management skills are essential. The role will require International travel on a regular basis, and despite ICANN HQ being located in Los Angeles, this role could be located in any of ICANN's existing offices in North America (Los Angeles) or Europe (Brussels), or any other suitable future office location pending the applicant's circumstances. ICANN has an immediate job opening for a Senior Officer Policy Support Coordinator. The key purpose of this role is to support the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council in the development and updating of technical policies and to facilitate co-ordination of policy processes between all of ICANN's Supporting Organisations and Advisory Committees. Reporting to the Vice President Policy Development Support, the Senior Policy Officer will assist in the co-ordination of technical policies or other issues under consideration in the specific areas within the overall ICANN structure of Supporting Organisations and Advisory Committees. They will maintain close relationships with the private sector, civil society, and governmental stakeholders involved in the development of the technical policies. The incumbent will furthermore assist the Council of the GNSO in their technical policy development processes, including the drafting of issue reports, specific research of Internet technical policy issues under consideration, provide guidance on all steps and timeliness of the policy development processes, and support related activities. The incumbent will also co-ordinate with relevant ICANN staff on aspects of emerging policies as they relate to aspects related to implementation, operations and to the legal interpretations of ICANN bylaws. The successful incumbent will have a bachelors degree (preferably in political science, communications or information technology) or equivalent experience. He/she will possess excellent verbal communication and written skills, specifically in report preparation and policy construction. He/she will have at least five years experience in developing policy in an environment with conflicting stakeholder views, and have experience in liaising with senior management in large corporations and with senior government officials. Highly developed people and project management skills are essential. Ideally the incumbent will be multi-lingual with experience in the international, high technology arena. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate strong team skills, creativity, a tolerance to stress, creative, and comfortable in dealing with multiple cultures and time zones.
