Two different issues;

  First it should be known that the name of the group is a misnomer. It is a competitive co-op. The only member to date is a business in competition with Verisign. Let us see their charter. Remember charities cannot have as a primary purpose - lobbying or litigation.

  Second lawsuit settlement for the benefit of the ICANN as a corp and its' officers is not appropriate when the cost of settlement is the detriment to the public. ICANN still operates (albeit illegally) as a charity or Non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation.

The new Coalition For ICANN Transparency, CFIT, has
already scored an early success by persuading
Representative Donald Manzullo, chairman of the
Congressional Committee on Small Business, to publicly
express concern.

VeriSign recently promised to settle its lawsuit
against ICANN in exchange for a renewal of the
contract that lets it run the .com domain. The
proposed contract extends its term from 2007 to 2012,
and lets it raise prices by 7% a year.
