Link farms. (was) [ga] Call for Elimination of AGP
Registrars who can not handle the business should drop out of it, as in any other industry. What makes them special? It is not only the registrars, but also the Registries that derive benefits from the domain tasting game... To the extent that when Google succeeds in a crackdown on "linkfarms", Verisign suffers from reduced registrations and profitability and has people already speculate on their stock valuation. (Perhaps that is why they have now announced that they will increase fees for .com and .net) The domain tasting game *does* currently result in actual new paying registrations. If link farms no longer work, there is a lot less use for tasting, apart from tasting for scamming purposes. As you correctly insist on the cleanup of a toll-booth type industry, that seeks legitimate profit maximization via any loophole possible, be prepared to pay increased fees. Ross' outburst can be read as a warning.
