Hello everyone,

Do note also that this request was flagged by Sarmad during his
briefing/update to the GNSO at the Saturday weekend session in Los Angeles,
when he also emphasized the importance of getting GNSO as well as ccNSO
input into a possible revision of the IDN Guidelines for second level
domains.

In addition, although this topic was not specifically discussed when members
of the GNSO community met with members of the Board¹s IDN Variant Working
Group in London, a suggestion was made then that GNSO community members
could self-organize to provide input from the GNSO and industry perspective
on topics of importance to the GNSO community. Given the discussion in Los
Angeles about the need to ensure that protections for second level IDN
domain names are adequate, this could be a good topic for the Council to ask
for GNSO volunteers to work on suggested input.

As such, the Council may wish to consider: (1) whether the suggested
deadline is realistic and sufficient, and/or (2) whether, in addition to
Councilors circulating Akram¹s letter to their respective SG/Cs, the Council
should request assistance from the GNSO community in the form of an informal
volunteer group to develop draft input on this topic.

Cheers
Mary
