Archived – July 2017 | Post Expiration of Domain Names

Last Updated:

Summary:

Policy, with respect to domain name expiration, has existed since the first iteration of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement. After a domain is registered and reaches its expiration, a set of processes are invoked in how the domain is reintroduced as available within the zone. The Expired Domain Deletion Policy, created in September 2004, was the first revision to the domain registration expiration provisions in ICANN's Registrar Accreditation Agreement (Expiration Domain Deletion Policy (EDDP)). In 2009 the PEDNR WG was formed to address EDDP shortcomings.
